Thatcher used the Falklands as a tool for her political gain.
She was re-elected by flag-waving fools on the back of the Falklands campaign. She would have lost the following election otherwise without a doubt.
I remember reading some where that she told Papa Bush to start a war [Iraq I] to help him get re-elected. And that it worked for her.
