Nine Iraqi Policement Killed In Tikrit

Nine policemen were killed and five others were wounded when armed men attacked checkpoints in East of Tikrit.

Gunmen attacked checkpoints on the roads between Tikrit-Dour, Tikrit-Alam district and Tikrit-Kirkuk, a security source told the National Iraqi News Agency on Tuesday, adding, the gunmen gained control of some checkpoints after heavy fight in which machine guns and mortars were used. Fight continues on the international Tikrit-Samara road, where gunmen gained control of parts of the road South of Tikrit, the source said, adding that the road from Tikrit to Kirkuk has been closed.
