The Dubyafication of Obama

The decision by Obama to overtly intervene militarily in Syria (the CIA have been there covertly for many months) show him to be the true heir of George W. Bush. He has been listening, it appears, to the Pentagon hawks and securocrats who have conveniently airbrushed out the part of the recent UN report which indicated that both sides in Syria had used chemical weapons. One interpretation for the proposed folly, one to which I subscribe myself, is that the decommissioning US troops from Afghanistan will need something to do. Neither the military nor the White House want tens of thousands of grumbling vets complaining about being paid off on Fox News 'analysis' programmes. Sending them to the chaos of Libya would have bad associations for Obama and Clinton. Also, an interventionist approach in Syria looks like a less risky (for America) strategy than attacking Iran at this stage. So another Pandora's Box is to be opened, Iraq-style, with the predictable dire results for the Syrian nation. As usual the poor and dispossessed will be principal victims. What is on the other side of Obama's red line? I wonder if he is really much worried. The securocrats will off his back for a while. LINK
