Carson McCullers wrote about working class, proletarian life in the Southern states of America. Few other contemporary or previous Southern writers did. I often wonder how a provincial, artistic girl from a reasonably affluent background could have got it so right. But she did.
Interesting, but that interviewer was literally in her face ... a man wouldn't get away with that in today's politically correct society. We have probably become far too cautious.
ReplyDeleteI loved "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter," when I was young, all that youthful angst ... :)
The interviewer was a disgrace sure enough, T. She handled it with considerable grace.
DeleteIncredible too that she wrote 'The Heart..' at the age of 23.
DeleteYes, she certainly remained composed and as you say handled it with grace. When I think of all that has been accomplished by both writers and musicians at such an early age, I'm just in awe...
