It strikes me, as Morsi goes on show-trial, that we are watching the moves, sights and sounds which will be remembered as the first stirrings of the impending civil war in Egypt. They are not the first ones to occur. Massacres have happened in recent months. But the Morsi trial will be what historians and posterity focus on as the seeds of what is going to be a horrible conflict, even by recent standards. And don't let anybody say that the US are not the scriptwriters, choreographers and puppet masters of the tragedy. They have form for destabilising democracies, let alone dictatorships like Iraq, Libya and Syria, in sovereign countries like Iran and Chile.
