Planned Attack on Iran - Diego Garcia To Be Launchpad?

US plans to use the British island of Diego Garcia as a base to attack Iran are the subject of much dodging and weaving by the Foreign Office at present. David Milliband has repeatedly evaded questions on its role in any forthcoming assault on Iran. Opposition politicians are questioning the role played by the Indian Ocean atoll in previous attacks on Iraq and Afghanistan as well as a staging post for extraordinary rendition. It is now documented that some of the US airstrikes in Iraq in 1991 and 2003 and in Afghanistan on numerous occasions since 2001 have come from the island. Sir Menzies Campbell MP has condemned the use of British territory for these purposes. The US operates a military base there but the UK Government has been reluctant to give details on the agreement which allows this to happen. Ed Davey MP the liberal democrat said yesterday:
'the events relating to this island of shame have damaged Britain's international reputation'. Not that there's much left of it it seems to us at WITC. Last week a number of US media sources exposed a consignment of US 'bunker buster' bombs destined for god knows where which were diverted to Diego Garcia. I am going to see my own MP next month about the use of Scottish airports by the US Military in the evil rendition process (a recent scandal emerged in Ireland about security costs resulting from US personnel passing through their airports to occupied territories and the related costs to Irish citizens). I will be taking a sheaf of articles about Diego Garcia along with me. US Navy propaganda travelogue for the island here

  1. Diego Garcia is a choke point. Just as the rest of the horn of Africa is. This will be NATO'S next major objective.
As far as the island itself goes. It is my understanding that the U.S. would have to ask the U.K for permission first. U.S., U.K. and Israel give each other the constant green light. So this is no deterrent at all.

The question that needs to be asked.
Is the West [including Israel] willing to take it to the brink?
Will they gamble a global depression?
Will they take the risk of bringing about WW 3.

The real issue about Diego Garcia is who doest it actually belong to? It is illegally British Indian Ocean Territory. Against all will and human rights breach it was snatched away from Mauritius. Its population was force fully removed and bullied out. Some of the citizens have a British Passport that needs a visa to enter the UK!!! Israel has nothing to do with Diego Garcia...The US exerts super powers against the UK to make sure they get the full use. The first deal was the discounted Polaris missiles that the British recently paid off their debt couple of years ago. The Queen once made a statement that she did not like the way the US dictated the use of her overseas territory. The US, UK have committed crimes against humanity on this case and have farcified reports of the indigenous population living there to deport them. They managed to split a territory from its main land against UN rights...There is more to this island than that. Movie - "A Very British Coup". Like Hong Kong was returned to China after the 100 years lease...sooner or later Diego Garcia would be back to Mauritius.

  4. Yes, Anon. I remember the Queen's statement. Blair would not have allowed anything to happen as a result. This is a screaming disgrace.

If the british and the us are so concerned about human righs, then they should leave diego garcia ad allow the natives to return to their land. The uk is illegally occupying mauritian territory but poor mauritius cannot fight back as they dont have the means unlike britain who quickly declared war on argentina for trying to occupy the falklands islands.

I just cannot understand why the British government is so reluctant to explain why there is an american base in Diego Garcia. Obviously it is a matter of power. Sooner or later Diego Garcia will have to go back to Mauritius and what is sad is that a lot of the people who have fought for this will probably never have the chance to go back to their native island. I believe in Karma-what goes around comes around- Somebody up there will intervene and a lot of those so-called 'powerful nations/people' will be put to shame
