Lord Goldsmith and His 10 Contradictions

'It was exposed that his legal advice had fundamentally changed twice in the lead up to the 2003 invasion. The Attorney’s opinion went, in little more than a month, from it being necessary for war that the Security Council make a further decision, to there being no such requirement on a qualified assessment, to there being no requirement on a strong assessment. On the face of it this was contradictory. Goldsmith has attempted to reconcile this since 2003 but, notwithstanding the seven year opportunity, contradictions persist as the explanations themselves contain irreconcilabilities. With many of Goldsmith’s attempts to cut back this unwieldy tree, he has created another branch to blossom into further incongruities. To add to this, there are contradictions for which no explanation has yet been offered.' Full analysis by Tony Bartlett here.
