The company also said it expected to sign an additional $1.0 billion deal in 2014 to provide parts, equipment and pilot training for 20 years.

25 Worst Iraq War Profiteers

The Iraq war is many things to different people. It is called a strategic blunder and a monstrous injustice and sometimes even a patriotic mission, much to the chagrin of rational human beings. For many big companies, however, the war is something far different: a lucrative cash-cow. The years-long, ongoing military effort has resurrected fears of the so-called “military-industrial complex.” Media pundits are outraged at private companies scooping up huge, no-questions-asked contracts to manufacture weapons, rebuild infrastructure, or anything else the government deems necessary to win (or plant its flag in Iraq). No matter what your stance on the war, it pays to know where your tax dollars are being spent.

Following is a detailed rundown of the 25 companies squeezing the most profit from this controversial conflict.

Decade after Saddam arrest, not much has changed in Iraq

Decade after Saddam arrest, not much has changed in Iraq - Hindustan Times
"Former members of Saddam's now-banned Baath Party are still regularly barred from public office, politicians tar opponents as "Baathists", and surging violence is typically blamed on some combination of Saddam supporters and Sunni militants.
At the same time, public services that fell into disrepair during the years of conflict have yet to be fully upgraded, unemployment remains high, corruption and nepotism are rampant and analysts say members of Saddam's Sunni Arab minority have yet to fully reconcile to losing power to Iraq's Shiite majority."

Rights groups demand investigation into killings of Egypt protesters

Rights groups demand investigation into killings of Egypt protesters - latimes.com:
The 13 domestic and international rights organizations argued that it will be difficult for the country to move forward without a full and transparent accounting of the crackdown on followers of deposed Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. Human rights groups have called the deaths the largest unlawful mass killing in modern Egyptian history.
The groups issuing the joint call included New York-based Human Rights Watch and London-based Amnesty International. Egyptian organizations, themselves facing heavy pressure from the military-backed interim government, also joined in the demand for a full investigation of political violence, mainly that associated with Morsi’s fall.

Aid Airlifted From Iraq To Syria

UN to airlift aid from Iraq to Syria - Iraq | ReliefWeb
"The supplies were desperately needed in the hard-to-reach areas as the war-fatigued population braced for what is expected to be one of the harshest winters in a century, he said.
The airlift, which was set to begin on Thursday and last through Sunday, "will be the first from Iraq to Syria," UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards told AFP.
The Syrian government had authorised the cross-border passage two weeks ago and the refugee agency had initially planned to transport aid into north and northeastern Syria by truck.
"But there was a shift in the elements that controlled that road and the border and we shifted to an airlift," Awad said.
Seven flights are planned so far, and more may follow, he said, stressing though that airlifting in the aid would not be sustainable in the long run."

French soldiers killed in Central African Republic

French soldiers killed in Central African Republic:
"After being told of the deaths, President François Hollande announced he would fly directly from Nelson Mandela's funeral to Bangui where around 1,600 French troops have been deployed alongside 2,500 African Union forces to try to stop the bloodshed between religious factions and restore order.
The two men, from the 8th Regiment of Marine Infantry Parachutists, based at Castres in southern France, were reportedly killed overnight in an exchange of fire with former Séléka rebels, as they patrolled the perimeter of the city's airport.
The seriously injured men were transported to a field hospital, but could not be saved, said military sources in the CAR."

Soldiers to face 11 more 'trials' over Iraq deaths

Soldiers to face 11 more 'trials' over Iraq deaths - Telegraph
"Mr Shiner has now brought or is preparing to bring a total of 160 cases alleging British involvement in the deaths of Iraqis and nearly 800 involving allegations that British troops broke Article Three of the Convention on Human Rights, which prohibits torture.
Mr Shiner said the 11 inquiries dealt with only a few of the cases he claims should be investigated. The ministry says it is “not yet clear” if more inquiries will be needed to deal with torture.
However, they come on top of an already vast amount of investigation into the conduct of soldiers and other members of the Armed Forces in Iraq. The biggest is the al-Sweady inquiry, which has cost more than £20 million and still has a year to go."
