Highland Trip

Our Glencoe trip had to be cut short due to dire weather forecasts. Came home after one night or we would have been snowed in for days otherwise. The forecasters weren't kidding. We arrived after navigating a blizzard in the car for the last half hour on icy mountain roads. On the way back I was lucky enough to pull in and then follow a snow plough/gritter down across Rannoch Moor. The pictures below, taken by my wife, show the lie of the land. Rannoch Moor was a seabed during the Ice Age. Hence the eerie flatness for miles and miles between the mountains. It's like a moonscape in any kind of weather really. Majestically beautiful though. The bottom pics are of Loch Lomond on the morning of the 16th January.

  1. Wow, that is quite the landscape. I haven't had to drive on icy roads for some time now, and would not look forward to it. I tend to stay put too much, perhaps. I have had a few memorable trips over mountain passes at night in blizzards, though. They make interesting memories.

  2. Haha. Our journey was a bit too interesting at times, Teresa. Just glad to be home safe.
